Solar Water Energy

Solar Water EnergyInformation About Solar Hot Water

Electric and hot gas systems, water accounts for about 20% of household emissions of greenhouse gases, and installing a solar water heater you will reduce emissions and save up 75% of your heating costs of the water! Table below from the Debartment of Environment and Climate Change NSW.

How does the solar water heater

There are two types of sensors:

  • flat plate (great for when the tank must be mounted on the roof)

  • vacuum tubes (ideal for areas subject to freezing)

Flat plate collectors work on copper pipes running through a glass covered collector, often connected to a water storage tank on the roof. The hot water can then thermo-siphon in and out of the tank and to heat water. The option of updating flat plate are evacuated tubes.

vacuum tubes use a glass tube with a vacuum inside the copper tube and through the center. The copper pipes are all connected to a common manifold which is then connected to a circulating pump to slow flow that pumps water from a storage tank below the heating of hot water during the day. The hot water can be used at night or the next day because of the isolation tank.

The drainage tube system are superior because they can extract heat from the air on a humid day and did not need direct sunlight. Due to the vacuum inside the glass tube, the overall performance in all areas is higher.

Solar pool heating uses a technology similar to the building / household solar water heater. solar pool heating involves covering a roof with a black blanket of coils and pipes also get heated by the sun combined with a slow flow pump that circulates water through the panel and in the pool. Unfortunately Energy Matters installs only the construction of household / solar water heating systems and does not perform the installation of the pool water heating.
