Mandarin House: Home to one of the great men History The Mandarin House in Macau is a work of traditional Chinese architecture was once the home of the famous Chinese literary great Guanying Zheng. Guanying Zheng was a very learned man and a great economic theorist. It is said that the writings on the economy influenced Guaying Dr. Sun Yat Sen and Mao Tse Tung who even invoked great cultural and economic changes in China.
First built in year 1881, the Mandarin House was occupied by different families over time, but remains Guanying its most famous resident. Located near Lilau Square one of the oldest Portuguese-style squares in the city, this house illustrates the background of cultural diversity of Macau and its hybrid architectural styles.
The Mandarin House is a traditional Chinese house, which covers an area of 4,000 square meters. This complex includes a garden, guard, courses, staff and neighborhood master. The gatehouse opens onto a large courtyard that separates the neighborhoods to develop control officer quarters and the garden outside.
The buildings are built in classic Chinese style with the exception of subtle influences from the West are detectable in the grounds, what is common between the architecture of this region.
